Hi guys! I’ve been bad by letting life get in the way, but I’m back! I would like to share with you and inspire you to read some of my favorite reads from this year, but bear with me…this is a lengthier post!
THE EDGE OF NEVER by J.A. Redmerski
Seriously the best book I’ve EVER read. I don’t think I have ever cried so much when reading a book, and it was a beautiful cry! Camryn and Andrew’s story is really powerful. Their love is so true and real. I can’t help but hope that there are really couples out there in the world like this. Couples that don’t let fear get in the way of living their lives. I hope to have a love like theirs someday, but hopefully I can avoid some of the heartbreaking situations they are put into. If you have not read it, go buy it now! While you’re at it, buy the second novel in the series: THE EDGE OF ALWAYS. It was a better ending to their story than I could have ever expected!
THE FIERY HEART by Richelle Mead
If you haven’t noticed…I’m kind of obsessed with this series. Each book only gets better! THE FIERY HEART is the fourth installment of the Bloodlines series. I was kind of scared to read it at first because in the Vampire Academy series (which is the true beginning of this series) the fourth book was where it all went to hell, but I was happily surprised. I mean sure the ending wanted to make me tear my hair out, but Sydney and Adrian’s relationship progressed so much that I could still patiently await the next book. Love conquers all! Seriously, Adrian is one of my favorite characters, and I love that I get to have his point of view now. Read, read, read!!
HER ACCIDENTAL BOYFRIEND by Robin Bielman
This is A Secret Wishes Novel! It is the second one to be exact. Sela’s brother Shane has a new girlfriend…he just didn’t know that! Kagan Owens says Shane Sullivan is her new boyfriend in order to prevent her past from getting a hold on her, and Shane ends up going along with her little lie to find out more about the mystery that is Kagan. They both end up with more than they bargained for. The story is full of laughs, passion, and flash mobs. Yeah, you read that right…flash mobs! It was the first time I ever encountered one of those in a story, but I have to say, Robin Bielman worked some magic with this one!
REDESIGNED by Denise Grover Swank
I didn’t think anything could beat the sweet and unexpected romance between Scarlet and Hunter, but I was wrong. Caroline and Reed had an unexpected romance, as well, but to me, it was full of more passion and intensity. Who doesn’t like a heroine that goes after what she wants and rises from the bottom? Who doesn’t like a hero that is sweet, protective, and demanding (in a good way!)? The Off the Subject series is a fantastic New Adult series. I look forward to the third installment, BUSINESS AS USUAL, in Spring 2014!
RUSH ME by Allison Parr
I enjoyed this book so much that I read it twice within a week. I think it is important to read books that have story lines that are unlikely just for the fun of it. Sometimes readers just need a good laugh, and RUSH ME is the perfect choice! The quirky, academic, Jewish girl, Rachel, meets the brooding, Catholic, NFL quarterback, Ryan. She hates football and football is his life. I bet you can just imagine how good the story is with just knowing that!
NO STRINGS ATTACHED by Kate Angell
After reading the first of the series (NO TAN LINES), I could not wait for this one! I just knew Sophie and Dune’s story would be adorable, and it was, but it is sexy, too! Dune is a professional volleyball player with amazing good looks, and Sophie is everyone’s awkward little sister coming into her own. It is fun to watch Dune try to resist the sweet Sophie, but don’t worry, it is not a story that drags on. It is the perfect beach read!
THIS HEART OF MINE by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
This is the fifth installment in the Chicago Stars series, and the bratty teenager Molly Somerville is all grown up…sort of. Don’t let the bratty-ness fool you! Molly has a lot going on in that head of hers that makes her put up a defensive front. Kevin Tucker, the Chicago Star’s quarterback unlocks a side of Molly that is fun and quirky! They really break down each other’s walls. It is also fun to read about Phoebe and Dan’s family again. It is a really entertaining story that you shouldn’t miss out on. Susan Elizabeth Phillips hits the nail on the head almost every time!
THE KISSING BOOTH by Beth Reekles
I was a little skeptical about reading a Young Adult novel (the Bloodlines series is my exception), but after hearing Beth Reekles story, I had to check it out. The writing was very impressive, and the story was very sweet. I was glad that I didn’t have to worry about a love triangle involving two brothers, and it was nice to read a story where a girl and a boy really could just be best friends without romance. I think that Reekles age lent to the realness of the book, and authenticity is always appreciated!
THE BEST MAN’S BABY by Victoria James
I’m a sucker for romances with children in them. I mean the child in this is still in the womb, but nothing screams “You’re going to be a dad!” like a pregnancy test stabbed into your burger in front of a big crowd! I don’t know if I have ever laughed so hard. The unexpected bun in the oven really thrusts Claire and Jake into an unexpected (but highly hoped for!) romance. Did I mention Claire happens to be the minister’s daughter? There is nothing more scary than knocking up the minister’s baby girl! It’s a good thing the minister has soft spot for Jake…I highly recommend this series, the Red River series, about a trio of good looking, sweet talking brothers!
ALWAYS ON MY MIND by Jill Shalvis
Jill Shalvis has created a dog with the best personality ever! Kevin is a Great Dane that seems to be perpetually hungry and that forgets that he is bigger than most people. It’s so great! Oh yeah, Leah and Jack are pretty awesome, too. This is another one of those “meet my boyfriend who doesn’t know he is my boyfriend” books! It’s different from HER ACCIDENTAL BOYFRIEND, though, because Leah and Jack actually know each other…they’re best friends, and who doesn’t love when childhood friends fall for each other. This novel is number 8 in the Lucky Harbor Series, which is the series that got me interested in adult contemporary romance. There is no way to not fall in love with this small town!
2013 was full of great reads, and I cannot wait to see what 2014 brings!
